With SonicWeld Rx, KLS Martin has developed a path-breaking system for craniofacial surgery. It combines cutting-edge ultrasonic technology with resorbable implants and thus creates unrivalled three-dimensional initial stability. Since all implant components are made of resorbable materials, no second surgery is required - a considerable advantage, especially when performing osteosyntheses on still growing bone structures of children.
The System
The core component of the system is the SonicWelder Rx, an ultrasound generator. Simply put, it generates precise microvibrations through the handpiece to the sonotrode tip. The components included are the ultrasound unit,handpiece with cable, sonotrode tip, a sonotrode wrench, and the foot switch.
Xcelsior Hot Water Bath
The Xcelsior hot water bath is the ideal system for thermplastic shaping of all Resorb-x implants. After a few seconds in the hot water, plates, mesh or other shapes can be created into a three-dimensional match to the bone contour. While the polymer will harden quickly, you may place portions of the shape back into the water to continue to manipulate the shape. For smaller areas in areas of limited access, metal templates may be used as well.
Condition & Testing
This device is in real nice cosmetic condition with minimal signs of wear from previous use. Powers on without incident and indicates it needs servicing. I am assuming it does need a handpiece to be in working order. It may need regular preventative maintenance although I cannot say for certain. The Xcelsior heats to desired temp and functions perfectly. The cords are good and the case is nice. Overall, a nice system.
